The article was talking about men who are in relationships not just ones who are single and sleep around Ah mate being a jerk isnt necessarily synonymous with being unfaithful…

I’m sure there have been many great minds that have been unfaithful. I think these ‘scientists’ are wasting money researching unhelpful subjects like this

so what your saying is, if a bloke is in an unloving relationship, if he has a higher IQ, he wont stray. I find that hard to believe myself considering its nature to constantly look for a mate to reprocreate. I believe it is normal for men to cheat especially if he has a higher level of testosterone in his body unless he has succumb to the social values of society over the many years. The solution is unless he has a regular realease of testosterone, he’d stray.

Misquotation. The scientist said ‘Faithful men are LIKELY TO BE MORE INTELLIGENT’ It cannot be applied to any single person, but rather a the population as a whole.
Individuals can be still be highly unfaithful and superbly intelligent!

@ Michael, Social Psychology is great research. If people understood each other more there’d be less anger and frustration in this world.

I also agree with michael, are scientists are gonna develop an antidote for cheating men then wouldnt it do the human race harm cause the reprocreation cycle would slow down and maybe stop. Society says its wrong to commit infidelity and cheat nature made us this way to survive and thats what we’re doing. What shall we listen too,which is more powerful, Nature or Society, it doesnt even warrant an answer as its so blantely obvious!

However, in the time that the ‘ape’ wandered onto the open planes and early ‘man’ came about… several factors actually ENCOURAGED and REQUIRED the evolution of the “Pair-Bond” – AKA. The Monogamous relationship

So what we actually have are 2 comflicting drives and instincts. We have the leftover drive to fertilise as many women as possible BUT also now have the drive to find a single, monogamous one too

That’s why humans, in comparison to other animals, have such unusual mating patterns. We have constant conflicts of interest with regards to monogamy and polygamy

Vikram. I’m not anti- Social Psychology per se. I just cannot see how this particular research is helpful.
Also, to me, it is a massive assumption that there would be any less of anything with thus type of research … apart from maybe some trees …

Hi Mark. The truth is … I don’t know …
There are many possible perspectives to look at things … some of interest to me … some not. I do not feel the need to have a definitive theory for anything within this context. It’s enough for me to notice that some men are monogamous and some aren’t … some change from one to the other. Theories can be interesting, but for me to be religious about them does not appeal … just personal taste

Oh yeah , regardless of the article, I don’t believe that IQ has anything to do with it.
Why? Well … I question the idea that researches such as these prove anything beyond any doubt. I find that the researchers are already motivated to prove their own theory and therefore find ‘evidence’. When a counter view is looked for, they find ‘evidence’ … and I question the foundation of IQ tests

I question some ideas of IQ, but i do agree we need them, sometimes if you wanna do a degree and the need to know what kind of IQ you have will determine if you can handle the pressure of the course. I agree with them in this respect but if you have comparing an lower IQ in a marriage as a means of excuse for cheating, its just not gonna cut it!
