Psychological Therapy

Psychological therapy or commonly known as psychotherapy is a method of well-being improvement. A psychotherapist aims to establish rapport with a patient to make an interpersonal relationship and help the patient deal with his personal struggles and boost his mental and emotional health. Psychotherapy also aims to improve the spiritual and mental health of a person as well as to promote relationships with other people.

Psychotherapy comes in many forms and the most common of all is the conversational interaction. In a typical session, the patient is encouraged to express all his problems and issues where the therapist can give direct feedback and counselling to the patient. This arrangement relaxes the patient because he only talks with the therapist the way he would talk to a friend.

For those who have troubles confiding their problems to a therapist, a new form of psychotherapy can be used by the patient. In this method, he does not have to go through a face-to-face interaction with the therapist. What he has to do is to write down on his journal or online blog about what he is going through. The therapist would just have to read his entries and take things from there. This method is very effective because most patients are more comfortable writing down their thoughts than sharing them with people.

Psychotherapy has come a long way since Sigmund Freud's introduction of psychoanalysis. The methods employed to help people improve their well-being have become more innovative and are, in fact, designed to match the lifestyle of the technologically-inclined population.
