Trends in Blogging

The popularity of blogs is immensely increasing. A blog is a type of website where people regularly post articles on a variety of subjects. The articles are usually commentaries, descriptions of people or events, ideas, insights, and almost anything people think of. Entries can also include videos, graphics or audio. Some people use blogs to publish their opinion on certain topics. Others use them as personal diaries. Readers can link their blog to other blogs. They can also leave comments using interactive tools so that other users can communicate with them.

Most blogs contain textual entries, but some are focused on other media. Blogs focused on art are called art blogs, sketches -- sketchblogs, photographs -- photoblogs, music -- mp3 blog, videos blog, and audio podcasting. While most blogs are for personal use, there are blogs used for corporate functions. Some businesses use the power of the Internet and blogs for marketing, branding and public relations purposes. These types of blogs are called corporate blogs. The emergence of blogs has also made it possible for people to create blogs using a mobile phone or PDA (personal digital assistant). Blogs made this way are called mob logs.

The role of blogging started to become mainstream by the early 2000s, with politicians, consultants, news services and candidates using them to deliver their opinions and relate news. Today, so many people have engaged themselves in blogging because it is one way to earn money. Bloggers can earn by soliciting paid advertisers or participate in contextual ad programmes. These programmes are offered by search engines and allow a blogger to earn when people click on the links found on the blog. Though people can get a fair amount of money from blogging, they usually do not use blogs as their sole source of income, but supplement it with other jobs.
